December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
Published on December 09, 2024
Motorists can expect to see increased impaired driving enforcement during the month of December, including a DUI checkpoint. This grant funded detail is made possible by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Drunk and drugged driving remains the leading cause of roadway fatalities. The Menlo Park Police Department reminds everyone that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect your ability to drive. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is still against the law. This campaign strives to reduce the number of impaired drivers on roadways who pose a threat to the safety and well-being of the public.
The Menlo Park Police Department will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the 500 block of southbound Middlefield Road.
Drivers are urged to drink responsibly and choose a designated driver or use public transportation. Please avoid drinking and driving. Wishing you a joyful and safe holiday season!
